Teaching is hard! While year 2 is better it still often feels like I don’t know what I am doing. This year I have been focusing more on assessment. Unfortunately, what it reveals is that many of the kids are not learning the content or skills that I may have hoped they would. What I have learned, however, is that if I overwork myself then everything goes worse…

Back to school! This year is going much better than last. I am in contact from Ethnic Studies teachers around the city and Bay Area who have generously shared their curriculum. One student noted “Wow Mr. Fong, you are so much more organized this year!” Hoping to continue these chill vibes for the rest of the year.

Some of the projects I have been working on include building a cabinet for my Mini Rack, adding 2.5g Ethernet to my room for better transfer speeds to the mini rack, and re-finishing backyard furniture. I have successfully quit TikTok. However, after about a month of greatly decreased screen time I find myself watching a lot of YouTube on my tablet and turning off the black and white filter on my phone…

I completed my first year of teaching! Using the summer to try to rest and recuperate by working on projects.

After buying a used bike from Columbys Cyclery I found a love of biking and have been taking little trips around San Francisco.
Currently, I am reading a lot of web blogs including: The Electronic Intifada, Indi.ca, Unwrapping Development, and Mission Local. I am also slowly making my way through Indecent Theology: Theological Perversions in Sex, Gender, and Politics by Marcella Althaus-Reid.
For work, I am teaching Ethnic Studies and World History in SFUSD.
